Marlow Brown: Scientist in the making by Kesta Fleming and illustrated by Marjory Gardner

Meet Marlow Brown, a young girl who loves all things science and just can’t stop wondering about the world around her.

She loves conducting all sorts of experiments that drive her mum crazy – but Don’t you remember when you felt the need to know the answer yourself, in your own way?

We (5&8 year olds and I) loved when Marlow Brown was experimenting with ants and her mum’s cake: cheeky humour and very close to home!!

This is a great book with a female protagonist who loves science and learning. Young readers will love her adventures and the discoveries she makes – even if they get her into trouble!

Children will enjoy learning that mistakes can be made and learnt from and that many experiments often fail the first time.

Marlow Brown by Kesta Fleming is a great book to bridge the gap between beginning independent readers and more wordy chapter books. It’s also a great book to raise the profile of STEM and that girls can be a part of the science world too.
