Traditional tales interwoven into modern day life, Where snow angels go by Maggie O’Farrell is a beautifully told story about hope, friendship and courage.

Sylvie is a young girl who wakes one night to find an angel in her room. Being a curious child she asks the angel who they are and why they are there. Surprised that the child can see him the angel explains that he is a snow angel, made from her snow play earlier that day and that he is there to always keep an eye on her to ensure she stays out of danger poor health.

Once the snow angel leaves her she keeps wondering about how she can get him to come back by climbing tall trees, standing up to the school bully and even sliding down the stairs on her toboggan – but to no avail – she mustn’t be in danger!

It isn’t until she is swimming in the ocean that she feels his help when the current takes her out of her depth. He comes to her rescue through a strong wave which carries her back to shore.

Knowing this Sylvie is determined to make sure everyone in her family has their own snow angel but she will need a little help to encourage them all to make one.

Children will love Sylvie and her inquisitive nature along with the idea of having an angel watching over them in times of need.

Daniela Jaglenka Terrazzini’s illustrations are devine and not only bring beauty to this story but emotion and life – really shining through the cool of winter and the emotion of family love.

This book is a beautiful bedtime story to be shared with young readers but also one which can be used in the classroom to look into fables and fairytales and even the concept that appears in so many books – a guardian who watches over us.
