Animals belonged in their own homes, just as much as she belonged in hers. She had no idea what she would do when she grew up, but she hoped she could always spend time here in the bush watching animals in their natural environment.

This Aussie STEM stars book has been written by Claire Saxby.
We first Meet Georgia Ward-Fear as a young girl who lives in the Blue Mountains not far from Sydney, always exploring the bush and caring for any injured animals. The family live in Leura but have a holiday house in a place called Hamptons which they soon have to live in due to her father losing his job at the iconic Australia’s Wonderland and not being able to keep two houses.
Georgia loves her house at the Hamptons as it is surrounded by bushland and animals but she loathes the extra travel time to school along with the loss of being able to hang out with her friends.
Children will read that Georgia always strived to do her best despite not being happy with her situation in her early years. They will also see that she constantly worked towards her dream of working in the field of science.
Readers will walk alongside Georgia as she travels the world, learning more about herself and the animals within it and seeing that sometimes a bit of thinking time can help us make big decisions..
Not only will readers learn about Georgia and the marvellous work she has done in the field of animal science and especially in helping animals affected by Cane Toads, they will also see that by putting yourself out there, volunteering and thinking about how to reach your next goal is so important.

About the author
Claire Saxby was born in Melbourne. She moved to Newcastle when she was a toddler and then to Bougainville Island in Papua New Guinea, where she discovered the most beautiful beaches and reefs in the world.
Claire attended many schools around Australia before studying to become a podiatrist in Melbourne. For several years she worked in community health while simultaneously writing for children. Her award-winning books fall into three main categories: narrative nonfiction, history and humour.
Claire is widely curious about everything, and passionate about encouraging curiosity, wonder and understanding in young people. She works part-time in a bookshop, where she loves talking to readers and running sessions on how to read to babies.
