Thinking about customs and traditions isn’t something many people think of when they think of the Australian Defence Force but it is filled with information as to why medals are worn by family members, colours of flags and even the names given to different ranks of officers. It even has some great links to musical instruments, animal mascots over the years and the why behind ANZAC biscuits!

This books links in not only with many children’s interests but it can be linked in with many areas of the HASS Australian curriculum through traditions, customs and the history of the ADF. It is also a great source of informative texts and is a great addition to the literacy classroom.
