Favourite Aussie nursery rhymes. Illustrated by Matt Shanks. Published by Scholastic.

Incy Wincy spider climbed into the bath.

Along came a Galah and made the spider laugh.

This is a very fun Australian picture book that should be shared with children alongside the traditional rhymes as not only will they still experience the important rhythm and beat, they will also have a good laugh at the antics of the various Australian animals.

Favourite Aussie Nursery Rhymes will open up discussions about different Australian animals, their habitat and what they can do. It will also help children to have a better understanding of traditional nursery rhymes as some of those concepts can be hard to understand.

Using nursery rhymes as a base also allows children to see that parody can be fun as well as different ways to use rhyme in sentences.

This is a great book to use in preschools and in the early years of primary school to explore:

  • Australian animals
  • Rhyme
  • Nursery Rhymes
  • Australian people & places
  • Parody
  • Alliteration
